Our Cosmetology program provides 1500 hours of extensive hands-on learning as required for the Montana State Board of Cosmetology. At Rituals Institute, we offer this course in two convenient schedules: Full Time (5 days/week) and Part Time (3 days/week).
Full-Time Hours: Tuesday-Friday: 8:30 - 5:30, Saturday 8:00 - 5:00 (40 hours)
Part-Time Hours: Tuesday and Thursday: 8:30 - 6:30, Saturday: 8:00 - 5:00 (27 hours).
Program Objectives
Rituals Institute’s cosmetology program provides you with a complete understanding of the beauty industry. Upon program completion, you will be prepared to take the Montana State Board’s practical and written examinations of cosmetology and be ready to succeed as a licensed cosmetologist. Each graduate will receive a Rituals Institute diploma, transcript, and state record of completion.

Cosmetology Course Timeline
Phase 1
In this phase students will learn the fundamentals of a consultation, haircutting, shampoo, scalp treatments, conditioning, sanitation, disinfection, safe practices and state board preparation. Students will not be on the clinic floor at this time.
Phase 2
In this phase students will learn the fundamentals of color application, consultation, color theory, and basic nail services. Students will also learn state board preparation and after reaching 300 hours, students will start on the clinic floor taking guests who schedule shampoo styles, haircuts, and scalp treatments
Phase 3
Students will learn the fundamentals of skincare. Learn basic facials, makeup, microbiology and anatomy. Students will now be accepting color clients and nail services on the clinic floor.
Phase 4
Students will explore new ways of styling, including updos, braiding, wigs, and extensions Students will now be performing skincare, body waxes, and makeup on the clinic floor.
Phase 5
Students will focus on a more advanced level of acrylic nails and hard gels. Students will also prepare for the State Board and give all services on the clinic floor.
Phase 6
Students will learn business skills, and on the clinic floor will practice salon life.
Phase 7
Students will prepare for the State Board exams while finishing up their hours to graduate.

Instructor Training Program Directives
Our Instructor Training Program, 650 hours, provides an opportunity for each student (cadet) to observe and assist experienced instructors as well as to thoroughly study the principles of teaching. The primary purpose of this program is to train the cadet in the basic teaching skills, educational judgements, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary to pass the Montana State Board Examination and for competency in job entry level employment as an Instructor.
Instructor Schedule Start Dates
The start dates for the Instructor Training program are the first Tuesday of every month with the exception of a start date falling on a holiday. Listed below are the exact start dates for 2022 and 2023.
The contracted graduation date and maximum time frame date depends on the schedule the student signs up for at enrollment. These dates will be specified on the Student Enrollment Agreement.
Part Time: 10 hours per week
Part time: 20 hours per week
Full Time: 40 hours per week
